Pedernales River - The river flows through the north end of the ranch

Welcome to our web site for the River Ranch. Our Ranch policy is directed
at breeding quality longhorn cattle for the best combination of horn,
confirmation, color, and disposition that we can accomplish. A lot of our
breeding program is based on Tip to Tip (TTT) horn measurements and
projections. We breed about thirty five cows a year to the bulls listed below.

Our policy is to breed only cows with 65" minimum TTT or projection. We keep
twenty
recipient cows for carrying the embryos from a few of our best cows.

Rio Grande Chex

74" TTT at 36 months, Rio Grande Chex is currently 76" TTT.

Rio Grande Chex is owned in partnership with Bob & Pam Loomis. For a longhorn bull, he is
about
as close to royalty as you can get. His dam is the famous Night Safari cow and his sire
is his name
sake JP Rio Grande. He won bronze for all three classes at the
Horn Showcase in 2010 and again in 2011,
he has earned his own pasture here at the River Ranch.
Rio Grande Chex worked a service assignment for Jimmy Jones @ Horseshoe J Longhorns in
Greenville, Alabama. Jimmy used him from December 2010 thru April 2011. He then
worked his pasture here at the River Ranch until October of 2011. Since he has been at the
Loomis Ranch working for Bob & Pam. Conventional Semen $100 @ straw.

Sweet Chex

70.00" TTT at 36 months, DOB 09-13-2007, Sweet Chex is currently at 73.50" TTT.
He was 62" TTT at 24 months w/ 15" bases

Sweet Chex is a JP Rio Grande son that we bought from Bob & Pam Loomis. He is young bull
that is starting to stand out and make his presence known. He is a big bodied animal with even
bigger horns. He has earned a pasture with some of the best young cows in the industry.
Awards update.....Sweet Chex won a bronze at the Horn Showcase or the Longhorn World
Championship eight times.

Sam Chex 708

72-3/4" TTT @ 36 Months, Sam Chex is currently at 75" TTT.

Sam Chex 708 is a partnership bull with Bob & Pam Loomis. His DOB is 12-17-07. His breeding
is Joaquin x B L Sadie. He is a bull that  we will use in the Rio Grande Chex pasture starting in
October of 2011 when Rio Grande Chex goes back to the Loomis Ranch for a breeding season.
If you like the brindle color with flat horn growth, you will really like Sam. I have never owned an
80" TTT bull (but just like Rio Grande Chex), Sam has an above average chance of getting there.
